What’s more perfect on a gorgeous late-spring day than wandering through the color and textures of New York's gardens?
The Bronx is up, and on the northern half of 'up' sits the largest inner-city garden in the US – the New York Botanical Garden (#NYBG). This National Historic Landmark is 250 acres strong.
The collection comprises more than one million plants. Along with the Enid A. Haupt Conservatory, a Victorian-style glasshouse, NYBG has 50 specialty gardens including the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden; the Native Plant Garden with northeastern North American plants; along with 30,000 distinguished trees – some 200+ years old.
NYBG not only functions as a museum, it offers comprehensive educational programs and research in horticulture and plant science.
For us city dwellers, it is an oasis from an environment walled in by concrete, tall buildings, traffic and noise. And a breath of fresh air.
Take a look at some highlights of nature on display now in the Gardens.
Cacti… or prickly ottomans?
Succulents and snake cacti – why did it have to be snakes?
My begonia – spots!!!
Straight-and-curly water plant floating in a pond
It's not Cousin It… it's a stylish plant from Central America.
A burst of neon orange
Great day to wander through the Peggy Rockefeller Rose Garden – even slightly past peak.
Beautiful bouquet of blush roses
Rose-colored gems
Edges of hedges
Sampling of many colors and textures
The NYBG is a great place to spend the #SummerSolstice. Take a walk in nature… it's peaceful and it's healthy.
